Quentin Sauvé has no hard feeling
Fresh from the reliably adventurous Humus Records comes “No Hard Feelings”, the third solo album from Quentin Sauvé. In sharp contrast to the hardcore punk style of Birds in Row, the band he usually plays bass with, his solo work is introvert and a lot quieter. With his own guitar and keyboard parts embellished by cello, pedal steel, clarinet and other instruments, plus female backing vocals, the results are reminiscent of the likes of Elliott Smith or Bon Iver. Two songs – “Collateral Damage” and “For the Best” – came out of a songwriting workshop with Big Thief’s Adrienne Lenker on the School of Song platform.
The album title, meanwhile, is to be taken quite literally. As Quentin Sauvé writes: “NO HARD FEELINGS tells the story of a traumatic event from March 2022 which triggered severe depression. I found myself in a pretty painful situation from a personal and professional standpoint, regarding my solo project and my band Birds in Row…This album is a collection of hard feelings I struggled to cope with during this long period of grief and insomnia.”
