Solong hitting the night
Entitled “When the Night Hit”, the latest EP from singer-songwriter and guitarist Solong, is out now on Mouthwatering Records. Recently touring Europe supporting Black Sea Dahu, Solong aka Klara Germanier is a member of Evelinn Trouble’s band and Klepka. She also frequently performs in a more experimental and improvisational context with Meret Siebenhaar, Gamut Collective and Lucerne Kulturbrauerei Collective.
Citing influences like King Hannah, Cat Power and Jack White, Solong plays mostly electric guitar, preferably with steel strings. Stylistically, her songs range from the subtly restrained Curtis Mayfield-esque “Feel the Heat” (co-written with Schnellertollermeier’s Manuel Troller) to the dreamy “Where do Lost Dreams Go” where she suddenly breaks loose with a beautifully controlled and yet seriously noisy solo, and, finally, the elegantly laid-back funk of the title track. Her gorgeously clear voice glides across these lightly delivered grooves with consummate ease and soulful grace.
