Hæsin Discover Their Inner Problem Child
“Sorgenkind” announces the arrival of a new “supergroup” from Basel, Hæsin. Their debut five-track EP is out now via Irascible Music. Led by vocalist and lyricist Denis Wagner, the five members of Haesin are all well-known figures in Basel’s ultra-creative musical landscape. Wagner, for instance, is also a member of Zeal & Ardor, and guitarist Giovanni Vicari is normally part of the art pop trio Malummi. Guest vocalist Gina Été, meanwhile, is a solo artist in her own right.
Haesin began with a four-hour trial and practice session in a local club. The experience turned out to be so invigorating that a continuation of the experiment became inevitable. Recorded live in the studio and sung in German, the five emotionally intense songs that make up “Sorgenkind” inhabit a musical niche somewhere between the lighter passages of Radiohead and the narrative chanson tradition of France. As an EP, the record offers an intriguing insight into a fascinating lyrical and musical vision; as a debut it offers a massive promise for the future.
