Flexfab & Ziller Bas Go Full-Throttle “Mugogo!”

It began with a spontaneous stage invasion in a small club in Kilifi, a small town fifty miles North of Mombasa, Kenya. Three years later it has ended – for the moment – in an album containing no fewer than 22 tracks, all sparkling with the sheer joy of a super witty cross-cultural encounter that was as unexpected as the results are brilliant.

With 5 million streams for his single “Zoo” alone, a host of awards including “Best Emerging Talent” at Swiss Live Talents and the overall “Best Track” at the M4Music Demo Tape Clinic, Flexfab, well-known for his mixture of down-below basslines, crazy sound effects and weird, but weirdly danceable, rhythms, was unprepared for what happened to him that night in August on his stop-off in Kilifi.

Deeply immersed in his show in a small and sweaty club, FlexFab was astonished when, in the middle of his set, a member of the audience invaded the stage and insisted on rapping along with his beats. Sceptical, FlexFab was nevertheless flexible enough to accommodate the unexpected “guest”. Lo and behold, something clicked. FlexFab and the rapper, Ziller Bas, were instant friends.

In January 2020, the Swiss beat maker returned to Kilifi with all the necessary equipment to make a proper recording. Two weeks of mostly improvised work resulted in an incredible fourteen tracks, all of them completely unique. The first batch of these songs was released two years ago as an EP. Since then, the duo has recorded still more tracks. All of these are now released as a digital album, plus a strictly limited vinyl edition (300 copies only!) with a 36-page book and posters. Truly, no party can be without a hefty dose of Mugogo!
