Awori x Twani Are Rapping about History

Awori, the Swiss-Ugandan rapper, has teamed up with French beatmaker Twani to record their first duo album, “Ranavalona”. It was released on 5 March 2021 by Galant Records and is distributed by Irascible.

“Ranavalona” is a project borne out of the enforced isolation that came with lockdown. Feeling somewhat lost without the powerful support of social contact, Kampala-born Awori found herself delving deeper and deeper into African history, eventually discovering the perfect subject and inspiration for the lyrics of this album. “Ranavalona III” was the last queen of Madagascar, a formidable woman who fought hard to prevent the invasion of her country by colonial forces, and paid for her courage by being sent into exile. The album “Ranavalona” is a tribute to the spirit of female resistance and the power of hope in the face of a hostile world.
