Hilke Discovering the Force of Her Piano
Entitled “Piano Feroce”, the second solo EP from Baden-based producer, songwriter and singer Hilke, is available now from Red Brick Records.
Actually, the six songs presented here are not entirely new. In fact, we have heard all of them (plus one more) before on Hilke’s solo debut “Silent Violent”, released in 2021. This time round, however, they sound very different. Originally conceived as a collection of fine, though relatively conventional, electro-pop tunes and sung by guests/friends including Dino Brandao and Odd Beholder, they have now been boiled down to their essence of acoustic piano and Hilke’s own voice. In a previous life double and synth bass player with the successful Belgian post-rock outfit Amatorski, Hilke recalibrated her musical vision to become a producer/musician working mostly in electronica and sampling. Purchasing a piano during lockdown proved to be the start of another new chapter in her musical life. Rediscovering the emotional depth of a mechanical instrument, she found the courage to sing the songs herself, thus turning them into beautifully intimate ruminations about the complicated times we live in.
