David Caspar Captures an Echo
Out now via Two Gentlemen Records is “Echo in the Fields”, the new EP from David Caspar, a singer/songwriter who is clearly not averse to the odd dose of Nick Drake. Like Drake, Caspar is able to sing about personal tragedies and disasters in songs that belie their emotional heft with a lightness of melodic touch and with vocals that glide over the songs like a feather.
Small wonder that David Caspar has felt unrooted and disorientated at some stages in his life. Born alongside his twin sister in the Emirates, much of his young life has been spent traveling. First, to swap between the respective homes of his divorced parents, later on by himself, extensively exploring Bangkok and other Southeast Asian countries. There followed stints in Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands (where he released his debut album), Berlin, and back to Switzerland for university and winning one of the Demo Tape Clinic awards at m4music 2022. According to his record company, he is at present “recording in an overgrown cottage in the French countryside”.
