La Nefera Says: This Is It!
This is it, indeed: the Dominican-Swiss rapper’s debut album. Entitled “C’est ça”, it was released at the end of October by the German label, Black Forest Voodoo.
Featuring the unlikely line-up of a French sousaphone player, an Argentinian guitarist and a Swiss drummer, Basel-raised and -based Jennifer Perez has forged a massively powerful musical melange that is totally her own. Whilst clearly rooted in reggaeton, cumbia and baile funk, trumpet and sousaphone add an idiosyncratic touch of colour. The guitarist, meanwhile, brings some hard, Van Halen-like riffing joy to proceedings. La Nefera herself is a seriously accomplished rapper whose powerful delivery and easy flow is always in control of the mayhem around her. The band, needless to say, are an incredible live act.
