Peter Kernel Drumming Up a Storm

The “best band in the world called Peter Kernel (according to themselves, at least) have come up with a very special and original concept for their latest album. Entitled “Drum to Death”, it is available now on On the Camper/Modulor Records.

Nearly twenty years and 800+ concerts into their career, Barbara Lenhoff and Aris Bassetti are still capable of dreaming up new ways of teasing fresh ideas from their combined muses. As a starting point for this, their eighth album, they invited eleven drummers to send them one new rhythm pattern each. Based on these, Lenhoff/Bassetti aka Peter Kernel composed a series of songs “as an ode of appreciation to the initial beat creator”. With the range of contributors ranging from Bernard Trontin (The Young Gods), Julian Sartorius and Simone Aubert (Hyperculte, Massicot) to Domi Chansorn (John Haycock, Evelinn Trounble, Fai Baba), the results are predictably varied. Further consolidating the Ticino-based band’s reputation as one of the most joyously adventurous rock combos around, they are also consistently innovative and musically gripping.
