Fräulein Luise may not be forever
Signed to Munich-based Superpol Records, Zurich’s indie/chanson quartet Fräulein Luise return after a lengthy period of relative silence with their first full-length album, “Vielleicht nicht für immer”. As the title indicates, their lyrics are all in German – however, the strength of their melodies and their playing should make their music more than palatable well beyond language borders.
After a near-meteoric start in 2022 with their debut EP “Kleine Freiheit” – sold-out gigs, support slots for the likes of Wanda and Von wegen Lisbeth -, only a very few singles and one EP offered an indication that the band continued to be active. This was partly due to the fact that the four members – Paula Scharrer (guitar, vocals, lyrics), Olivia Merz (keyboards), Paul Studer (bass), Alisha Todisco (drums) – were still preparing with the final batch of their school exams, partly with their desire to work more intensely on developing their music.
“Vielleicht nicht für immer” offers ample proof that their efforts were not in vain. Particularly strong on story-telling and melody, their keyboard-flavoured guitar sound is rich in detail and serves Scharrer’s thoughtful and sometimes confessional vocal style very well indeed.
