Egopusher Pushing Beyond

After a series of riveting singles, remixes and a mini-album, the much-travelled Egopusher at last release their second album. It is called “Beyond” and comes out on 9 October via the Zurich-based experimental electronica label Quiet Love Records (motto: “We release music by people we like who make music we love.”).

Egopusher are violinist Tobias Preisig and drummer Alessandro Giannelli, aided and abetted by a vast arsenal of pedals and effect machines. “When we started work on this album we agreed that musically anything should be possible, nothing should be forbidden,” says Giannelli. As ever, the songs on “Beyond” started with an improvised studio session. In contrast to previous work, however, instead of shaping longer passages into individual pieces, this time round, they extracted only short bits from the recordings. Like building blocks, these were then fitted together to form a rounded new structure. “In the past, the focus was on our instruments,” explains Preisig. “Now it is firmly on the song.” The resulting music somehow manages to combine clubby urgency with a ruminative contemporary classical feel.
