SME helping to make a fresh Waves Vienna Festival Hybrid Event – 10 – 12 Sept 2020

Of the many different concepts of delivering some kind of festival experience in these strange lockdown times, Waves Vienna has come up with one of the most interesting, we think. It is a hybrid event, with both the concerts and the conference streaming live for public viewing. Our traditional Swiss Business Mixer has predictably fallen foul of Corona measures.

However, we are so convinced that this pioneering version of Waves Vienna will be a massive success that we did not hesitate for a second to accept the festival’s invitation to produce live videos by three acts of their choice – meaning: they really do like them! – to be premiered by the festival.

Here’s our three contributions to Waves Vienna:
Jessiquoi
Thu 10 Sept, 19:25 – 19:55, Channel Thurygrund, presented by Wojnar’s

Jessiquoi’s fizzing debut album, “Glitch Trigger (Chapter 1)” was swiftly followed by “Glitch Trigger Chapter 2” last autumn. Producing not just her music herself but also all her anime-influenced visuals, Jessiquoi is a kind of electronica-hip-hop-K-Pop-“Gesamtkunstwerk”. Not to be missed!

Annie Taylor
Sat 12 Sept, 21:30 – 22:00, Public Viewing @ WUK Hof
Sat 12 Sept, 21:25 – 21:55, Channel Thurygrund, presented by Wojnar’s

They’re a four-piece fronted by a woman, none of them called Annie Taylor. Produced by the king of Winterthur, Howlong Wolf aka David Langhard, their debut album is a sharp and bittersweet collection of shimmering guitars, great tunes and the wistfully powerful vocals of Gini Jungi. A fabulous live band, too!

Crimer
Sat 12 Sept, 22:05 – 22:35, Channel Thurygrund, presented by Wojnar’s

A gravity-defying one-man explosion of rubber-legged post-disco dance moves, Crimer, with the aid of a super-super-tight band, has created a thoroughly contemporary take on 1980s synth-pop sprinkled with a generous helping of instantly unforgettable choruses.

We will miss the special vibe Vienna Waves has created over the past few years, and, of course, we will miss our traditional Swiss Business Mixer just as much. However, in a sorely reduced world we are looking forward to this hybrid version of the festival very much indeed.
