Soft Loft Clearing Up The Mess

After a series of acclaimed EPs and singles, here, at last, is Soft Loft’s debut album. Produced in part by Los Angeles-based producer Gianluca Buccellati who co-wrote and produced most of Arlo Parks’s debut album, it is entitled “The Party and the Mess”. With an impressive number of streams collected within days of its appearance, and an extensive list of gigs lined up in Germany, Switzerland and the UK (including a couple of shows at the Great Escape), the band is gearing up for an exciting summer.

“Music is a safe space”, says singer Jorina Stamm who also writes all of the songs. “Music does not judge; it speaks to you directly and offers a refuge whenever you want to get away from reality.” The album title was handed down to her, so to speak, by her grandmother. Stamm: “On a visit to grandma in her old peoples’ home, she told me how, whenever she would feel that her time was about to be up, she would put on her favourite red dress and throw a massive party with plenty of champagne. The album is both a tribute her and an ode to life: the big party and the mess of it all.”

After a relatively discreet previous life as a singer/songwriter named Ellas, Jorina Stamm has found the perfect band to suit her muse. With not a hint of dissonance rearing its ugly head anywhere in her songs, their laid-back, warm and harmonic vibe does indeed offer shelter from the noise of everyday life. Lyrically, meanwhile, Stamm neither avoids nor wallows in difficult subjects. And anyway, she is blessed with the sort of effortlessly flexible voice that makes life sound so much better, irrespective of any words.
