The World Seen from a Bitter Moon

Bitter Moon are Réka (vocals, synths) and Simon (synths and drum machine). They split their home between Lugano and Zurich. “The World Above” is, after a handful of singles and EPs, their debut album. It was released on 20 May by La Suisse Primitive Records.

Distantly related, sound-wise, to both Jane Weaver and Klaus Johann Grobe, Bitter Moon trail a dreamy Krautrock track through imaginary soundscapes full of autumnal beauty and a hint of sixties pop charm. Inspired by a “chance encounter” with New German Cinema, “The World Above” is a concept album conceived during a prolonged winter hideout in the Italian Swiss Alps, and recorded in Lisbon under the guidance of the Dutch master of neo-psychedelia, Jacco Gardner, with a selection of analogue synths.

Here’s a few more words about Bitter Moon, taken from their very own Facebook page: “A hall of mirrors, fed by the blinding sun. Endless reflections, an ocean of possibilities, each wave heading in the direction of yet another figment of reality. A street that abruptly ends… the stars… the sky… all vanishing into nothingness.”
