We Invented Paris re-invent themselves

We Invented Paris, the Basel-based musicians’ collective formed around vocalist and songwriter Flavian Graber, have been quiet for some time. Two singles, “Looking Back” and “Kaleidoscope”, suggested that things were moving once again. Now comes the real proof, a full album entitled “Catastrophe”.

Turns out the band haven’t been sitting around idly all this time. In fact, they recorded a number of new songs in 2015 with star producer Victor Van Vugt. Feeling somewhat dissatisfied with the outcome, they ditched them all. Instead of treading water they wanted to explore new ground. A switch from the acoustic guitar to the Keytar as the main song-writing tool guaranteed not only a new sound but also a new dynamic. The result is an album full of 1980s cyberpunk sounds with a 2017 groove. The title, “Catastrophe”, meanwhile, is a strong hint that We Invented Paris are not just about party, party, party. “Catastrophe” sums up their feelings about political and environmental developments in recent years, concerns which form the lyrical backbone of a mature album full of musical surprises, including guests like Carey Willets (Athlete) and writer/producer Jon Fortis (Lana del Ray, Razorlight etc.).

“Catastrophe” was released on 25 August via Spectacular Spectacular, distributed by Cargo Records and Finetunes.
