The regrouped Legendary Lightness with new Album

Formed around the studio wizard and guitarist Daniel Hobi, The Legendary Lightness have been one of the most successful as well as original Swiss bands in recent years. Specialising in densely woven guitar textures, their first two albums were a masterclass in understated tension and laid-back melodiousness.

When percussionist Dominic Oppliger left to concentrate on his other band, Doomenfels, and he himself became a father, Hobi decided to take a year off. He didn’t stick to this decision for long. Having become friends with Nik Bärtsch’s musically very different Ronin outfit after a shared concert, experimental sessions with Ronin’s bass clarinettist and saxophonist Sha and drummer Kaspar Rast proved to be so fruitful that Hobi instantly gave up on his temporary retirement and integrated the two musicians in his new music.

The resulting album, “April Hearts”, is very different from the two preceding works, though no less gripping. In fact, it is often dead catchy, as Hobi has made a conscious decision to move away from the Zurich indie scene’s habit of sneering at anything resembling a recognisable and hummable chorus. Released in Switzerland in April, the album will come out in Germany on 23 June 2017 on Ronin Rhythm Records via Galileo and Iapetus Media distribution. German bookings for The Legendary Lightness are coordinated by Z art Agency in Berlin.
