Stevans signed with French record label R17

Geneva-based “electro power rock” outfit Stevans have signed with the French record label R17.

Stevans began ten years ago as the project of a lone singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Yann Franel. Augmenting the line-up with bass and drums and releasing their debut album in 2006, the band supported the likes of Editors, Snow Patrol and Deep Purple live. Their second album “Fake” was produced by Will Jackson who had worked in a similar role with the Kaiser Chiefs. Establishing a new, heavier and at the same time dancier sound, Stevans went from strength to strength. However, last year, Yann Franel found himself alone again – both his cohorts had become fathers and were no longer willing and able to be part of a touring rock band. Undaunted, Franel recorded the new, third Stevans album all by himself – with production help from Serge Morattel at Rec Studio in Geneva.

“Rupture” was released in Switzerland in January, with the single “The Backyard” receiving plenty of airplay on national radio. Second single “Franelizer” came out in May and was added to the playlists of SFR3, RETE 3 and Couleur 3 as well as several local radio stations.

“Franelizer” is the first single released in France through the deal with R17. An EP is promised for June, and the album “Rupture” will follow in October.
