Asbest are Driven

“Driven” is the rather apt title of the debut album of Asbest, a trio from Basel consisting of Robyn Trachsel (guitar, tape, vocals), Judith Breitlinger (bass) and Jonas Häne (drums). Theirs is a dark and heavy brand of post-Black Mountain guitar rock with a hint of Public Image Limited thrown in. It flows slowly like lava and has undoubted hallucinogenic qualities. The band formed in 2016.

“Driven” was recorded at Malthouse Studios in Bristol with producer Dominic Mitchison (Spectres, Velcro Hooks, LICE). Asbest describe their music as an “angry to desperate reaction to the general events of our time, but it also reflects Trachsel’s personal experiences as a trans-woman in a cis- and heteronormative society”.

“Driven” was released on 28 September by A Tree in a Field Records and distributed internationally by Broken Silence in Hamburg.
