Bastian Baker with new album and featured live spot at Eurosonic 2016
One of the most convincing and successful musical exports from Switzerland over the last few years has been the young singer/songwriter Bastian Baker from Lausanne. Still only 24 years old, Baker releases his third album „Facing Canyons“ in Switzerland on 6 November 2015 on Phonag Records.
Bastian Baker was something of a shooting star when he first appeared on the Swiss pop firmament in 2011. His very first single, the clearly programmatic “Lucky”, was a hit in Switzerland. The debut album “Tomorrow May Not Be Better” promptly reached the top 3 in the Swiss charts before also charting in France. A musically impressive second album, “Too Old to Die Young”, was recorded in the UK with Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, REM, Big Star and others).
The metaphor-heavy title of Baker’s new album, „Facing Canyons“, was inspired by a long trip across the United States. Individual songs, on the other hand, are – he says – snapshots from a journey that has now lasted two years and taken in most corners of the world. Brief encounters with fascinating characters, poignant moments in the street, observations from a train – everything, no matter how small the detail, serves as a starting point for Baker’s imagination.
Details of an international release of „Facing Canyons“ in 2016 as well as an extensive tour will be announced at a later stage. Before then, in January 2016, Bastian Baker will be appearing at the Eurosonic in Groningen as the official „delegate“ sent by the Swiss national radio station, Radio SRF3.
