Swiss artists at the Gurtenfestival, Bern 16 – 19 July 2015
Situated on the Gurten hill just outside the Swiss capital city, Berne, there can’t be many rock festivals boasting a more idyllic and yet easy to reach location. Since its inception in 1991, the Gurtenfestival has continually grown and is now an integral part of the yearly festival calendar, attracting talent spies and other business professionals from all over Europe.
One festival stage, the Waldbühne, is given over completely to artists from Switzerland, featuring, amongst others, James Gruntz, Undiscovered Soul, Müslüm, Pablo Nouvelle, Baba Shrimps, End and Damian Lynn. Some bands had to work especially hard for their “Ticket to Rock”: in March, eight bands were selected to take part in a competitive “play-off” at a packed Bierhübeli in Berne to “fight” for the last four Waldbühne slots.
Swiss artists are not confined to the Waldbühne, however. Most eye-catching is Patent Ochsner’s slot on Sunday, headlining alongside Patti Smith.
