Andrina Bollinger on a quest to slow everything down

Vocalist extraordinaire, Andrina Bollinger, returns with her second solo album, “Island of Way Back”. Co-produced in part by Mike Lindsay (Tunng, Laura Marling Seamus Fogarty), it’s available now from Mouthwatering Records.

Railing with quiet and insistent determination against “a culture obsessed with speed and perfection”, “Island of Way Back” is multi-instrumentalist and composer Bollinger’s call to rise up against the modern-day bombardment of demands and the pressures of perpetual performance. As her involvement with acts like Eclecta and JPTR as well as her work in theatre and film shows, she has never let herself be restricted by conventional rules of style. “Island of Way Back” may be distantly – very distantly! – related in sound and approach to the work of artists like Julia Holter, Samora Pinderhughes or Marta Del Grandi. Her vocals never rise much above the volume of a whisper – and they are all the more striking for it. Although densely arranged, the songs glow with a sense of space and melodic freedom.
