Marius Bear Is Higher Than He’s Supposed to Be

A new EP from Marius Bear, “When We Get There We’ll Know 2.0”, continues where last year’s “When We Get There We’ll Know 1.0” left off. Produced once again by Joe Actill (Benjamin Amaru, Ilira, Heera and many more), the indomitable Bear serves up another selection of classy and eminently hummable pop songs for a good- vibes-night. After his ESC performance of “Boys Do Cry” in 2022, his participation in ”Sing Meinen Song”, well over 30 million streams as well as multiple appearances in the SME newsletter, Marius doesn’t really need an introduction anymore, apart from saying, perhaps, that he is the possessor of one of the strongest and most distinctive voices in Swiss pop music today.

A quick word about the lead single from the EP, “Toxic Love”. It’s not often that the adjective “toxic” is a good thing in the context of “love”. Marius Bear, however, manages to give the concept an intriguing twist. “Toxic Love” turns out to be his paean to a love that does not depend on a human partner. “I’m higher than I’m supposed to be, I know”, he sings, “the drink, the pills, the dirty thrills I love.” “It is the small sins that are the spice of life”, he reckons, according to the press blurb. Does his mum know, we wonder?
