To Athena Has Made A Movie

To Athena is the name of singer/songwriter Tiffany Limacher’s solo project, and “The Movie” is the title of her new, second album. It was released on 20 October 2023 by Mouthwatering Records.

Even though Lucerne-based To Athena is billed as a solo project, it is as far away as can be from a lone guitar strummer singing through a haze of hair. Live, Tiffany Limacher is backed by a nine-piece band/choir – which is needed to reproduce the sumptuously orchestral sound of this album.  The word “orchestral” is probably misleading, too. Her arrangements very rarely follow the conventional pattern of pop strings and brass. Rather, they include singing saw, harmonium, harp and other treated sounds that are more reminiscent of circus music or the soundtrack of some quietly uplifting studio movie from Central Europe. Sometimes, too, her background as an actress/singer in musicals shines through. The swirling chorus of “Spinning” alone is worth the entrance fee.
