Arthur Henry explores himself
“#WhoAmI” is the title of a new 7-track mini album from the La Chaux-de-Fonds-based singer/songwriter Arthur Henry. Arthur Henry is no ordinary writer of songs, however. As a member of the idiosyncratic drums/trumpet/beatbox trio KoQa Beatbox, he has explored the artistic potential of beatboxing for many years. Going it alone, mostly, he combines beatboxing with electronic loops produced live on stage to great effect, adding emotional heft to an art that in lesser hands often slips into the realm of gimmickry.
“#WhoAmI” is not so much an EP, as advertised, or even a mini album, but a proper multi-media art installation. Containing no fewer than seven songs, the package also includes seven videos, one to go with each song. Amongst the guest musicians adding their own touches of colour are saxophonist Adrien Guerne (Kassette, Los Orioles), percussionist Nicolas Pittet (Emilie Zoé) and the singer, Giulia Dabalà.
“#WhoAmI” is released on 8 February on Watch Me Win, a subsidiary of the Berlin-based QFTF label. Watch Me Win is coordinating a Europe-wide promotional campaign for this release with a special focus on France.
