Soft Loft Hitting New Heights

Just in time for the start of a massive 45-date tour of Germany, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland, Soft Loft release their new EP, “Modern Roses”. It is their first for their new label, [PIAS].

The five-piece from Zurich have been on a remarkably wild ride since the release of their debut EP barely two years ago. In no time at all, their music was on rotation at Seattle’s KEXP and many US college radio stations. In the UK, meanwhile, BBC6 gave them plenty of airtime, as did Berlin’s FluxFM. A number of high-profile performances at European festivals added to the buzz which is clearly reaching a new pitch this summer.

To write their latest batch of songs, Soft Loft hid away in an idyllic house in the Italian part of Switzerland. Recording took place in a defunct hotel on the edge of Dresden in the Eastern part of Germany. The only non-band-member present was the recording engineer. One of the most important aims of these get-togethers was for the band to be able to nurture the ever-growing bond between each other.

This growing intimacy has produced some amazing results. Leading off with “Leave the Light On”, already released as a teaser single, it becomes immediately obvious that the group has hit new levels of self-confidence. “Leave the Light On” is an invigoratingly uptempo melody driven by a near-euphoric chorus and a lovely and sure-footed vocal performance from Jorina Stamm. While there is not a single duff note on the whole EP, another stand-out track is the subtly understated “Paper Plane” (not to be confused with the Status Quo track of the same title!).
