Anna Erhard Goes Camping

18 months after her first solo album, here comes the follow-up from Berlin-based singer/songwriter Anna Erhard. Released on 9 September 2022, it was produced, like its predecessor, by ex-Wir sind Helden-drummer Pola Roy. Released via Radicalis Music, it is entitled “Campsite”.

After releasing two albums with Basel-based vocal trio Serafyn, Anna Erhard relocated to Berlin three years ago for a general reboot. Sporting a laid-back semi-electronic overall sound, her first solo album displayed her talent for fine melodic twists familiar from her Serafyn-days. To this, she added a new sardonic vocal style perfectly suited to drolly humorous lyrics. The new album retains this approach whilst at the same time venturing thrillingly off-piste in terms of sound and arrangements.

Abandoning their original modus operandi – that is: writing songs on guitar and completing them in the studio with Pola Roy – this time round, Erhard and Roy met in the studio to fool around on their synths and bashing out a series of beats. Step for step, fragments of lyrics and melodies were added to these beats to form the new songs. The results veer from the intriguingly anarchic – “Horoscope”, “Campsite”, “90 Degrees” – to the lusciously melodic.
