Anna Aaron and Bernard Trontin Serenade the Moon

“Moonwaves” is an unusual album from an unexpected musical pairing. Released on 23 April 2021 via Bambient Records, it marks the first collaboration between Geneva-based composer, producer and – last but not least – Young Gods-drummer Bernard Trontin, and Anna Aaron, a singer/songwriter with a strong experimental bent from Basel.

Aaron and Trontin had known each other for a long time through their connections to Two Gentlemen Records in Lausanne. They reconnected after a Young Gods gig in Basel in 2019 and began work on “Moonwave” shortly after the start of the first Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. Aaron, in a house in the East of Switzerland, and Trontin in Geneva, each recorded pieces of ambient music which they then sent to the other to add to it whatever they wanted. There were no discussions about the directions they wanted to take, or the means they would use to get there. The outcome is a selection of tracks of radiant with calm intensity and shimmering beauty.

Bambient is Anna Aaron’s own label, launched to offer a platform for “ambient and unusual music” produced by friends, and friends of friends. “Our aim is mainly to celebrate the artists we love…” writes Aaron on their homepage, “…and to give them a space for exploring the more experimental side of their creative work, their less known artistic facets and the vastness of their ability to discover new possibilities of sound.”
