Verveine at Iceland Airwaves 4 – 8 November 2015, Reykjavik

Ever since the ascent of Björk and the subsequent flood of innovative music from Iceland, the country’s capital city, Reykjavik, has become a favourite destination for artists and fans alike in search of inspiration. Here, in spectacular surroundings and behind the backs of the traditional centres of the music business, a refuge has been created where music can flourish, away from the deadly trend dictate of London, New York or Berlin. The ideal location, in other words, for a festival that celebrates the new. First held in 1999, Iceland Airwaves is a yearly festival in Reykjavik that specialises in new music with an electronic bent from Iceland and abroad.

One of the artists performing at this year’s edition of Iceland Airwaves is Verveine. Resisting the temptation of any puns involving glacial textures and spooky soundscapes, Verveine fits the bill perfectly with her resolutely independent and innovative approach to electronic music. Ever since the release of her debut album in 2013, Verveine has steadily built a fine reputation as a live performer. Operating in a field somewhere between Techno, Pop and experimental Electronica, she constructs her songs “live” by layering many different tracks and beats over each other, creating a and intense and constantly shifting pattern of loops and melodies. Signed to Creaked Records earlier in the year, her EP, “Antony” was released in March.

Verveine will be appearing at the Iceland Airwaves Festival on 6 November 2015, followed by concerts in France and Switzerland throughout the month.
