The best of Swiss music with Swiss Music Export at the Paléo Festival 20 – 26 July 2015, Nyon, Switzerland
Founded as a folk festival in 1976, the Paléo has long since developed into one of the musically most diverse as well as most popular festivals in Europe. For six days, an audience of approximately 230’000 music fans will be served a hugely adventurous and international selection of artists spread across six stages. A large and growing proportion of these are Swiss.
With the offices of both Swiss Music Export (SME) and Fondation Romande Pour la Chanson Et Les Musiques Actuelles (FCMA) situated in Nyon, this counts as our very own home festival. Naturally, therefore, SME in partnership with FCMA will be working harder than ever to create a platform for music business professionals from across Europe to meet up and mix with their Swiss counterparts.
An early and ideal opportunity to forge new connections and renew old ones is the by now traditional Music Business Brunch hosted by Swiss Music Export and FCMA at their offices in Nyon. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday 22 July between 13:00 and 15:00. Access to this hugely popular event is by invitation only. Anyone wishing to attend please don’t hesitate to contact adelaide@swiss-muisc-export.com
This is not, however, the only opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of SME. Starting from Tuesday 21 July, SME in partnership with FCMA will be showcasing one band each day for the rest of the duration of the Paléo. These events will take place daily at Le Cosmo in Nyon and start at 16:30.
This is the program of SME Showcases @ the Paléo:
Tuesday, 21 July: Klaus Johann Grobe (neo-Krautrock)
The duo from Winterthur combine pulsating synth grooves with German lyrics, a tongue-in-cheek touch of easy listening, and psychedelically hypnotic melodies. Klaus Johann Grobe will appear on the same day as part of the Paléo program.
Wednesday, 22 July: FlexFab (electronica/hip-hop)
FlexFab from Neuchatel enjoys breaking the boundaries with twisted rhythms and cavernous bass lines. Mixing hip-hop beats with electronica, he was the overall winner of this year’s Demotape Clinic at m4music in Zurich. FlexFab also appears at the Paléo on Monday 20 July.
Thursday, 23 July: Fabian Tharin (chanson)
The author of four albums already, Fabian Tharin from Yverdon mixes guitar, drums and electronica with a hefty dose of wit to create his own, captivating style of modern-day chanson. Fabian Tharin also appears at the Paléo on Friday 24 July.
Friday, 24 July: Rootwords (hip-hop)
Supported by his band, the Block Notes, the rapper from Geneva mixes hip-hop, electro and soul with lyrics not a million miles away from those of the band that inspired his name, Philadelphia’s the Roots. Rootwords also appears at the Paléo on Saturday 25 July. Additionally, he is a guest performer with AM444 on Monday 20 July.
Saturday, 25 July: Yellow Teeth (country, folk)
With a name borrowed from a Charles Bukowski story, the songs of singer/songwriter Tiziano Zandonella from Sion are steeped in the tradition of Johnny Cash, Neil Young and wide open American spaces. Yellow Teeth also appear at the Paléo on the same day.
The SME/FCMA showcases are an ideal opportunity to meet up with fellow music business professionals in a convivial atmosphere to enjoy some excellent music as well as company. Admission is open to all professionals and members of the media accredited at the Paléo. For more information please contact adelaide@swiss-muisc-export.com
