Balthasar Glättli is the new president of Swiss Music Export
Balthasar Glättli is the new president of Swiss Music Export (SME). He was elected to this position during the association’s annual general meeting on 21 March 2014. Glättli, a National Councillor from Zurich representing the Green Party, succeeds Evi Allemann, also a National Councillor, who was the president of SME for the last five years.
After his election, Balthasar Glättli released the following statement:
„Pop music is one of the most important forms of cultural expression in our society. It is very important to provide access for Swiss artists to international markets. I am very pleased to be able to contribute my share of work towards this aim as the president of Swiss Music Export.
Swiss Music Export aims to facilitate the distribution of Swiss pop music abroad. The organisation supports musicians wishing to establish themselves on a wider European level with advice and networking facilities as well as finance. Swiss Music Export was founded in 2003. It is a joint venture initiated by Pro Helvetia, Stiftung Phonoproduzierende, SUISA Foundation, Fondation CMA, Migros-Kulturprozent and the Schweizer Interpretenstiftung.
Balthasar Glättli (born 1972) was a member of the City of Zurich Municipal Parliament from 1998 until 2011 when he was elected to the National Council. In the Municipal Parliament, from 1998 until 2004, he was the leader of the Green fraction. From 2004 until 2008 he was also the co-president of the canton Zurich Green Party. In 2013, Balthasar Glättli became vice-president of the Swiss Tenants‘ Association. He studied philosophy and German studies before working in the IT sector for seven years. For another seven years, he was the manager of Solidarité sans Frontières, an organisation concerning itself with the politics of migration. Since November 2013, Balthasar Glättli is also the president of the Green fraction of the Swiss Federal Assembly.
