Polarbären and La Nefera in riveting jazz/rap mash-up

Dominican-Swiss rapper La Nefera has teamed up with “Out of Genre” m4music demo tape award winners Polarbären to record an album that is just as invigoratingly genre-busting as the combination suggests. “Visa” is out now on Current Moves.

La Nefera aka Jennifer Perez has never been afraid of wild experiments. Her previous band, for instance, contained a sousaphone player and trumpeter and forged a powerful melange of reggaeton, cumbia and baile funk. Polarbären, on the other hand, call their music “Klima Jazz”. They combine guitars and sax with electronics, samples and effects, and – apart from winning that m4music award – were nominated for the prestigious ZKB Jazz Award. The Nefera/Polarbär collaboration first encountered the public in a showcase at the Project Agora Festival in 2025 in Basel. “VISA stands for creative openness, shifting perspectives, and musical courage – a collaboration that not only questions genre boundaries but redefines them”, it says in their press release. We couldn’t agree more!
