Malummí – silence is not always golden
Basel’s Malummí follow up their Indie Suisse “Album of the Year”, “The Universe is Black” (2023), with a no less impressive nine-track collection, “Damaged by Their Silence”. The album is available now from Mouthwatering Records.
Formed in 2018 to perform the songs of Brazil-born Larissa Rapold, Malummí also consist of studio boffin Giovanni Vicari and in-demand drummer Lucas Zibulski. Somehow reminiscent of both, Minnie Riperton and Polly Harvey, Rapold’s gravity-defying vocals are perfectly suited to lyrics delving deep into the emotional fallout from thoroughly common and yet also thoroughly individual experiences like love, loss and reconciliation. Linking the personal with the social, Rapold’s lyrics never lose sight of societal challenges to do with the power structures in a society dominated by patriarchal Caucasian attitudes.
Malummí are supporting the release of “Damaged by Their Silence” with an April tour of the UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland.
