Into the dark (and light) with Lone Assembly
Having caused quite a stir, internationally, with a handful of singles, here, at last, comes “Knots & Chains”, the debut album from the Genevan dark wave synth quartet Lone Assembly. Big and bold in sound, the disinterred joys of Goth darkness are laced with a dollop of Joy Division/New Order synth and the odd catchy pop chorus. Led by the joyously cavernous voice of Raphaël Bressler, Lone Assembly show no fear of monumental pathos and big words. Each song of an LP firmly rooted in the 1970s concept album tradition (though sounding very much like 2026!) takes a close look at one particular aspect of social, psychological or political control. “The album forms a cycle from suffocation to sigh of relief, from oppressive narrowness to liberating expanse”, explains Bressler.
“Knots & Chains” is available from Irascible Records. The band celebrate their LP debut with an extensive tour of the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
