Jules Martinet Goes It Alone
After many years of collective endeavours, multi-instrumentalist Jules Martinet makes his solo debut with an EP entitled “Peak Rose”. Self-released, it is distributed by Irascible.
Born in the hive of musical activity that is Lausanne, Jules formed a number of bands, including Polar Circles and Monument, before moving to Zurich. Here, his name popped up on recordings by the likes of Dino Brandão, Andrina Bollinger, mantocliff or Sirens of Lesbos. The pandemic gave him the time and leisure to concentrate on his own ideas, using a fragmentary, cut-up sort of approach to both sound and lyrics. Playing all instruments himself (guitar, bass, drum machine, synth, flügelhorn, percussion), he draws on everything, style-wise, that he has touched on during the past few years, from jazz to fusion and krautrock, from indie to Spanish guitar and French chanson. A quiet and subtle album that amply rewards repeated listening.
