Jamila Celebrating the “Boyfriend of the Year”
Out now via Young + Aspiring is a new four-track EP, “Boyfriend of the Year”, from the fast-rising Swiss-Palestinian indie-pop-singer Jamila.
Citing the likes of Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams and Phoebe Bridgers as influences, Jamila’s songs are an elegantly sumptuous blend of electronica and organic garnishes, ruminative and highly personal lyrics, and big melodies. The EP title, Jamila says: “…is both ironic and revealing – it’s about the ones who had the crown and lost it, the ones who never stood a chanced, and the ones who maybe even deserved it. But at its core, this EP isn’t about them. It’s about realising that through every high and low, the one person who’s been there the whole time is you.”
