Fomies Plunging Us Into a State of “Liminality”
Possessed by a rather un-psychedelic work ethic, the fearsomely wild Fomies are already up to their sixth album since their inception in 2017. It’s called “Liminality” and comes to us via Taxi Gauche Records – a double album when purchased in vinyl!
“Liminality” describes a transient state in a rite of passage, when the participants are no longer their old selves, nor yet have they settled in their post-passage state of mind. If ever there has been the perfect description of the effects of psychedelically tinged music, this surely is it! Fomies are a quintet based on the shores of Lake Geneva. Their guitar riffs are beautifully heavy, the rhythms madly intense, their instrumental interplay, forged from a decade of close friendship, is bordering on the transcendental. Their press blurb mentions their Krautrock influences – we presume they’re thinking of the rockier side of Amon Düül 2, not the likes of Neu! Here’s their own and totally charming description of their style: “Great followers of the D.I.Y., FOMIES is a garage-fuzz band mainly inspired by obscure records badly recorded in weird places.”
