Edb Letting the Tapes Roll
Sony-signed rapper Edb – aka Eddie – begins the second phase of his burgeoning career with part one of a “double EP”, “Eddie’s Tape Side A”. Containing a generous six new tracks, it will be followed later in the year by “Eddie’s Tape Side B”.
Edb – still only in his very early twenties now – established himself as a teenager in Bern’s vibrant rap scene. Marking his coming of age with last year’s debut EP “City Boy”, he demonstrated a rare ease with rhythm and words, combining the sonorous tones of his native Bernese dialect with an ear for catchy melodies. The new tracks are, if anything, even more melodic in conception and fearless in terms of their candidly emotional lyrics. Truly unusual for someone reared on hip-hop, Edb’s music is no longer based on beats and samples but on the sound of a full band, with arrangements much closer to the world of Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi than that of, say, Eminem.
