A Rush of Multilingual Adrenalin from SOOMA
“You can’t move to the music of SOOMA without getting injured” wrote Artnoir a while ago, and they weren’t much wrong! “Drü” is the Zurich-based trio’s third album. Released on 3 May 2024 on Gluttony Records, it offers a riot of pounding drums, bass and guitar, satisfyingly seasoned with super tight syncopation. With hints of grunge, hardcore punk and stoner rock, they still somehow manage to sound different to the rest. The album title? “Drü” is Zurich German for “three”. “Three, like the trio that we are,” they write, “three, like our third album. SOOMA were formed in Zurich in Switzerland. That’s why we chose a title that reflects this place as well as the language spoken here. In our everyday lives, all three of us use several languages. As with the lyrics on this album which are in French, Spanish and English, we wanted the record not only to reflect the multilingualism of the band but also the multilingualism of our lives.”
