Swiss Music Export @ Eurosonic 2024

Another year, another Eurosonic. Not that we’re complaining, of course! Quite the opposite, in fact. Year after year, the trip to Groningen provides us with the oomph to reconnect with the real world after the otherworldly excesses of the festive period. With 258 acts from 39 countries scheduled to appear live at this year’s edition, Eurosonic provides us all with a welcome opportunity to dance away those excess calories acquired in recent weeks. It also rolls out a panoramic view over the musical landscape in the next twelve months. All this, plus the company of 4000 fellow business professionals to discuss trends, campaigns and concepts in a massive selection of workshops, panels and presentations. Truly, Eurosonic is not to be missed.

Needless to reiterate that all of us at Swiss Music Export are massive fans of ESNS. Putting our money where the mouth is, we are once again supporting some of the most exciting acts emerging in Switzerland. These are Annie Taylor, Nathalie Froehlich, Crème Solaire, Monte Mai, Batbait, Caroline Alves, Bound by Endogamy, Psycho Weazel and LEILA. Three of these are sponsored by three of the four wings of Swiss Radio & Television, SRF. Psycho Weazel was chosen by RTS Couleur 3 (French), Caroline Alves by SRF3 (German), and Monte Mai by RSI Rete Tre (Italian). All are brilliant, we promise. We’d love to see you there – come and say hello!

SWISS PERFORMANCES AT EUROSONIC 2024:

ANNIE TAYLOR
WED 17 January 2024 20:10 – 20:50 | Vera

Emerging perfectly formed and effortlessly cool a couple of years ago, a packed touring itinerary has turned Annie Taylor into one of the most invigorating rock acts around. Untouched by the dreaded second-album-syndrome, last summer’s “Inner Smile” is a corker.

NATHALIE FROEHLICH
WED 17 January 2024 23:30 – 00:10 | SimplonUpstairs

A member of the Lausanne-based music and arts collective Sacrée Déter, rapper Nathalie Froehlich doesn’t mess about. Her lyrics and delivery are direct, hard-hitting and – after a solid year’s gigging – honed to live perfection.

CRÈME SOLAIRE
WED 17 January 2024 | 01:30 – 02:10 | Vera

Combining the electronic punk nous of Pascal Stoll and the fiery vocals of Rebecca Solari, Crème Solaire describe their wild and joyous racket as “electro-punk-glitch-hop-absurd-pop”, and they’re not wrong. Tonight, they will be premiering songs from a new album due out in spring.

MONTE MAI
THU 18 January 2024 | 20:10 – 20:50 | Lutherse Kerk

Consisting of a Grenadian singer and synth-player, Anais Schmidt, and the Swiss duo of Fabio Pinto (guitar, vocals) and Fabio Besomi (bass, electronics), Monte Mai whip up a fizzy blend of dreamy vocals, liquid beats and psychedelically inflected bleeps and whooshes.

BATBAIT
FRI 19 January 2024 | 19:30 – 20:10 | All Round

The super-dynamic quartet from Zurich picked up the overall “Demo of the year” award at m4music 2021. Recent single “Something’s Dripping from the Ceiling” suggests the band have lost none of the spiky post-punk attitude, female oomph and spirited riffing that made their debut album such a blast.

CAROLINE ALVES
FRI 19 January 2024 | 20:10 – 20:50 | Lutherse Kerk

Featherlight hip-hop beats combined with rhythms rooted in the singer/songwriter’s native Brazil, and a hint of French indie chanson, makes for a beguiling new twist on a style that could be loosely described as up-tempo trip-hop.

BOUND BY ENDOGAMY
FRI 19 January 2024 | 20:50 – 21:30 | Mutua Fides

Hyperactive members of Geneva’s Bongo Joe crew, Shlomo Balexert and Kleio Thomaïdes will be presenting material from their brand-new album, a playfully fiery mixture of synth-punk, rave and fun.

LEILA
FRI 19 January 2024 | 00:10 – 00:50 | Forum Rabo Studio

Newly signed to Herbert Grönemeyer’s Grönland label, singer/songwriter LEILA possesses the kind of voice that once heard, won’t be forgotten. Deep and androgynous, it sounds young and old, strong and vulnerable, provocative and intimate, all at the same time. And the same goes for her music.

PSYCHO WEAZEL
FRI 19 January 2024 | 00:50 – 01:30 | Grand Theatre

Producers Ivo Roxo and Léo Besso are leading lights in the French Swiss electronic scene. Theirs is a deeply more-ish and yet unconventional mix of complex, drum’n’bass-inspired breakbeats tinged with pop, Italo-disco and 80s new wave grooves.
