Swiss Music Export @ Transmusicales Rennes

How time flies! In the case of les Transmusicales, Rennes, we’re prepared to make an exception: we’re actually happy to be back so soon in this charming town in the West of France. The last festival of the year is also one of the year’s most exciting and entertaining. Launched more than four decades ago, the most attractive feature of Transmusicales has always been its dedication to the cause of the next wave of young talents, and, above all, to support originality and experimentation.

Once again, Swiss Music Export will be hosting a reception with drinks:

SWISS BUSINESS MIXER
THU 7 December 2023 | 16:30 | UBU, 1 Rue Saint-Hélier, Rennes

Friends old, new and prospective are all warmly welcome. However, registration is mandatory.
Here’s the place to sign up until December 5th, 2023.

And there’s more: A whopping eleven acts from Switzerland are part of this year’s programme. Every single one of them comes highly recommended by all of us here at Swiss Music Export.

YALLA MIKU
WED 6 December 2023 | 21:15 – 22:15 | UBU

Consisting of musicians hailing from Eritrea, various parts of North Africa as well as Switzerland, Ex-Mama Rosin and Bongo Joe (label and shop) founder Cyril Yeterian’s latest project is an exuberant summation of everything that’s great about Geneva’s music scene just now.

BOUND BY ENDOGAMY
WED 6 December 2023 | 00:05 – 01:45 | UBU

Prominent figures in Geneva’s ultra-active squat and punk scene as well as the Bongo Joe crew, Shlomo Balexert and Kleio Thomaïdes will be presenting material from their eponymous and brand-new album, a fiery as well as playful mixture of synth-punk, rave and fun.

LA BRUCELLE
WED 6 December 2023 | 01:05 – 01.45 | UBU

The Bongo Joe-affiliated DJ will be firing up the decks between performances and at the end of the shows with an eclectic mixture of grooves ranging from Altin Gün and Chouk Bwa to King Gizzard and Rosalia.

ANNA ERHARD
THU 7 December 2023 | 16:30 – 17:15 | UBU

Anna Erhard playfully and shrewdly combines a flair for oddly compelling melodies, subtly anarchic arrangements and – witness her latest single “170” – a tinder-dry sense of humour.

ANNIE TAYLOR
THU 7 December 2023 | 17:45 – 18:30 | UBU

Quite possibly the coolest band around, an intense touring schedule has turned the Annies into an explosively rocking and deeply satisfying live act. Their second album “Inner Smile”, released in the summer, is a corker, too.

IKAN HYU
THU 7 December 2023 | 19:00 – 19:45 | UBU

Anisa Djodoatmodjo and Hannah Bissegger, ex-members of Bonaparte and Allen Finch, serve up a visually beguiling and musically exciting, raunchy mix of electronica, rap and soul, laced with a hefty dose of punk exuberance.

SAMI GALBI
THU 7 December 2023 | 23:00 – 00:00 | PARC EXPO – GREENROOM

Setting out to explore the music of his childhood in Morocco, multi-instrumentalist and singer Sami Galbi has arrived at an intoxicating blend of contemporary raï and chaabi styles.

NATHALIE FROEHLICH
FRI 8 December 2023 | 20:00 | BARS EN TRANS | SALLE DE LA CITÉ

A member of the Lausanne-based music and arts collective Sacrée Déter, rapper Nathalie Froehlich doesn’t mess about. Her lyrics and delivery are direct, hard-hitting and – after a year packed with gigs – honed to live perfection.

CITRON CITRON
SAT 9 December 2023 | 16:00 – 16.40 | LA LIBERTÉ

Geneva-based Siblings Zoe and Augustin Sjollema combine voices, synths, violins and guitars to mesmerising effect on their beautifully crafted and cinematically arranged “chansons”.

AUDREY DANZA
SAT 9 December 2023 | 00:05 – 02:05 | PARC EXPO – GREENROOM

Propulsive rhythms and memorably melodic cascades of synth sound – as demonstrated on her recently released mini-album “Iodine Skies” – are Geneva/Berlin-based DJ Audrey Danza’s speciality. However, for her Rennes set she promises “not all techno, trance and cosmic bleeps”…

DOWN – MÉLISSA GUÉX x CLÉMENT GRIN
THU 7 December 2023 – Saturday, 9 December 2023 | PARC EXPO – Halls 4 and 5

Mélissa Guex is a much-traveller dancer, choreographer and performance artist based in Lausanne. Yverdon-raised Clément Grin is a percussionist whose musical range reaches far beyond the jazz/improv scene that raised him. Both share a deep interest in collaboration. In Rennes, spread over three days, they will perform a series of six improvised explorations of what they call “downamics”.
