Yet No Yokai Announcing Their Arrival

After a ridiculously long wait of five years, the debut album from Yet No Yokai has finally arrived. Not unreasonably entitled “Wir sind da” (“we are here”), it reaches us thanks to the tireless endeavours of our friends from Hummus Records (Emilie Zoé, Anna Aaron, Coilguns, and many more).

If Krautrock had been invented circa 1972 in Turkey and then transported into the modern world, that’s how Yet No Yokai sound. Hailing from the musical hotspot that is Lucerne, the trio are masters of psychedelic riffing and Mediterranean scales. Add to that some piledriving rhythms and lyrics that lose nothing of their mysterious aura even when they’re sung in German, and you truly have your complete brain-bending, mind-expanding psychedelia experience.

After winning the Demotape Clinic at m4music in 2020, the band concentrated on perfecting their live shows, playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Winterthurer Musikfestwochen, and sharing bills with the likes of Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C. and Tinariwen. They compare the making of their album with a game of Lego: “We had accumulated about 30 recordings of riffs, loops and drum breaks from jam sessions. Together with Timo Keller (the producer) we selected the best elements and put them together, like blocks of Lego, to form longer structures.”
