Paris is most definitely one of the most romantic cities in Europe, especially in the autumn. And Pigalle is one of the most romantic parts of Paris, especially in MaMA season. For three days, the area around Place Pigalle will be buzzing with music, with seven different venues hosting 80 concerts and no fewer than 150 convention events. Hell, yeah – what’s not to like!

Of course, the MaMA Festival is unmissable anyway. However, what makes it even more unmissable is Swiss Music Export’s traditional Swiss Business Mixer! An ideal opportunity to make fresh connections and exchange concepts, ideas and hot new names with like-minded professionals, this year’s Mixer comes with sizzling showcase performances from NNAVY and Gaspar Sommer.

NNAVY

It is no coincidence that Lausanne-based singer/songwriter NNAVY recently supported Arlo Parks in Zurich. The two artists are clearly cut from a similar cloth. Blessed with an effortlessly flexible soul voice and an un-showy but deeply emotional singing style, the Burundi-born NNAVY has vowed audiences at festivals including Montreux Jazz Festival and Zermatt in the past year. Mixing acoustic guitar and keyboard with cello, violin and electronic sounds, she cites Billie Eilish , FKJ and Nina Simone as influences.

Gaspar Sommer

A much in-demand producer and studio musician – at MaMA he also plays keyboard with featured Swiss artist Danitsa – Gaspar Sommer is also a gifted “chansonnier” in his own right. Leaning towards a punchy and yet laid-back fusion of jazzy grooves, soulful vocals and French lyrics, the Geneva-based artist will feature songs from his much-admired recent album “Les Couleurs Pastels”.

Gaspar Sommer is part of the Swiss Business Mixer Showcases (17:45-18:15) and will play the keyboard during Danitsa’s concert the same evening

DANITSA

Starting off as a teenager with the Geneva-based Little Lion reggae/hip-hop collective, Jamaica-born Danitsa has followed her own musical instincts ever since, arriving at a unique and subtle blend of dancehall reggae, hip-hop, and funk which has landed her a contract with Island/Universal. Her first album under this deal, “Sycle”, reveals a young artist at an early peak of her powers who does not shy away from an experimental approach – her often minimalist, though always softly melodic instrumental arrangements being a case in point.
