SME at Waves Festival Vienna – Thu 8 – Sat 10 Sept 2022

No other festival generates quite the same ambience as Waves Festival. This is partly due to the setting, Vienna, a fascinatingly picturesque town where Eastern Europe meets the West, and partly to the concept of the festival which is to turn geographical reality into program. Of course, with the Balkans as well as the countries along the Adriatic coast hosting more and more festivals with international line-ups as well as crowds, an event linking up professionals from East and West makes complete sense. So, naturally, Swiss Music Export is hugely looking forward to the return to Waves Vienna.

And with it, equally as naturally, to the Swiss Business Mixer, presented in cooperation with the FONDATION SUISA.

*** SWISS LIVE ACTS

PRIYA RAGU
Thu 8 Sept – 22:30 – 23:15 – WUK Halle

Warner Music-signed Priya Ragu has been the Swiss success story of the past eighteen months. Her blend of R&B and a sound soaked in influences from the Indian subcontinent, not to mention her spectacular visuals, have brought her plenty of media attention and an impressive guest spot with the chart-storming UK outfit, Jungle.

BATBAIT
FRI 9 Sept – 20:15 – 21:00 – Weberknecht

Winners of rock category as well as the main “demo of the year” award at the 2021 m4music Demotape Clinic, the four women from Zurich are celebrating the release of their debut album in September with their first ever show abroad at Waves Vienna. Theirs is a hypnotic post-punk groove with catchy melodies coupled with witty ruminations about love and life.

BENJAMIN AMARU
FRI 9 Sept – 22:00 – 22:45 – WUK Foyer

Named after Tupac Amaru, the last Inca king, Benjamin Amaru writes songs and creates moods that are carried by his warm voice, dreamy synthesizer and melancholic sounds. Within a short time, the multi-instrumentalist has built up a solid and rapidly growing fan base and has shaken up the music scene with his calm and self-confident attitude.

ANNA ERHARD
FRI 9 Sept – 16:00 – 17:00 – Grand Cafe am Alsergrund
Swiss Business Mixer
Sat 10 Sept – 20:45 – 21:30 – Fanialive

After splitting from Basel-based trio Serafyn, Anna Erhard relocated to Berlin for a personal and creative reboot. The first results were featured on her debut solo album “Short Cut”, released in spring 2021. Based on a quiet and laid-back semi-electronic musical backing, her new songs focused on the laconic vocal delivery of her dry and witty lyrics. Recent singles suggest that Erhard is in the process of throwing off the shackles of understated folk elegance in favour of a looser approach, complete with bold percussion, scratchy guitars and a generally more anarchic approach to noise making.
