Pet Owner Behaving Naturally
9 September 2022 sees the release of Pet Owner’s debut album, “Natural Behaviour”, on Red Brick Chapel. Pet Owner is singer, songwriter, and 80s synth afficionado Lea Mathis’s solo projects. She is also a part of vocal trio Stimmig and a “quirky DIY pop” (their words) duo with fellow vintage synth fan Amadeus Fries. Fries, in fact, has acted as a co-producer, with Fries, of Natural Behaviour”.
Hers is a dreamy and laid-back melange of luscious melodies, underpinned sometimes with subtle synth beats, sometimes with quietly strummed acoustic guitar, sometimes with both. Added to this nicely textured instrumental background is a generous sprinkle of extraneous “found” sounds that add a deeply enjoyable air of playfulness to Mathis’s selection of invariably well-crafted and imaginative songs.
