Switzerland at c/o pop 2022 – Cologne, Germany

We missed it too much – after an absence of several years, Swiss Music Export returns to the c/o pop Convention in Cologne! c/o pop is very much about the future. Whilst the festival’s live music focus is firmly set on the discovery of new and newish acts, the conference, too, aims to give a voice to the next generation of music business professionals.

c/o pop Festival 20 – 24 April 2022

SME’s two special events both take place on the same day, Thursday, 21 April 2022. First off there is the Say Hi! Soundwalk, followed by the Swiss Business Mixer.

***Say Hi! Soundwalk
Thursday, 21 April – 13:00 – 15:00

The Soundwalk is a movable networking event for professionals in the shape of a walk in groups of twelve to fifteen people through Cologne, with stop-offs at three strategic locations where the participants will be introduced to some of the Swiss artists performing at the festival. The acts taking part in this event are Ikan Hyu, Odd Beholder, Evelinn Trouble and Giulia Dabalà (replaces Odd Beholder).

All professionals are cordially invited to come along to one of these walks. However, registration is mandatory.

SME Acts are also well represented in the regular festival programme:

Evelinn Trouble
Thursday, 21 April 2022 – 19:00 – 19:45
BüzE – Bürgerzentrum Ehrenfeld

It came as no surprise that Evelinn Trouble carried off the IndieSuisse award for the “best album of 2021” for the strikingly original “Longing Fever” (Mouthwatering Records). Trouble has long been one of the most innovative as well as unpredictable voices in Switzerland. Fresh from a dazzling show at m4music with an extended line-up of her new, all-female band, she has discovered a new sense of purpose and intensity.

Ikan Hyu
Thursday, 21 April 2022 – 19:30 – 20:15
Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld

Anisa Djodoatmodjo and Hannah Bissegger, ex-members of Bonaparte and Allen Finch, serve up a beguiling and often pleasingly dirty broth of electronica, rap and soul, laced with a hefty dose of rock.

Sirens of Lesbos
Thursday, 21 April 2022 – 20:45 – 21:30
Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld

With the ghost of their early tongue-in-cheek Ibiza-tribute hit “Long Days, Hot Nights” long since banished, Denise Häberli, the Serag sisters, Jasmina and Nabyla, and producers Melvyn Buss and Arci Friede are drawing from a wide range of influences to forge a multi-faceted blend of Nu Soul, Fleetwood Mac-type harmonies, Lee Perry and Hercules & Love Affair.

L’Eclair
Friday, 22 April 2022 – 21:00 – 21:45
Bumann und Sohn

Formed around the nucleus of keyboarder Sebastien Bui and guitarist Stefan Lilov in 2015, their all-instrumental sound draws from sources as disparate as 60s blaxploitation cool, Bert Kaempfert, Sun Ra and Liquid Liquid.

Priya Ragu
Saturday, 23 April 2022 – 19:00 – 19:45
Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld

Priya Ragu – born and bred in Switzerland to Sri Lankan parents – cites Lauryn Hill, Donny Hathaway and the Bollywood composer A.R.Rahman as influences. However, her sizzling blend of R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop and grooves from the Indian subcontinent is uniquely her own (and that of Japhna Gold, her producer brother).

Odd Beholder
Thursday, 21 April 2022 – 13:00 – 15:00
Say Hi! Soundwalk

Odd Beholder is the dream pop project of Zurich-based singer, songwriter and electronica specialist Daniela Weinmann. Pleasingly subtle in her approach to rhythm and mood, the loveliness of her vocals serves as a camouflage for some weighty lyrical themes.

Giulia Dabalà
Thursday, 21 April 2022 – 13:00 – 15:00
Say Hi! Soundwalk

Giulia Dabalà replaces Odd Beholder who had to cancel at short notice.

Giulia Dabalà spent her childhood in Myanmar – the artist from Western Switzerland draws her inspiration for her experimental dark pop from music all around the world, spanning all kinds of genres. Her debut album is set for release this year.
