Dino Brandão Bounces into Solo Action

Released in April, Dino Brandão’s first solo single “Bouncy Castle” has already notched up half a million Spotify streams. Now follows an eponymous EP, released on 12 November by Two Gentlemen Records. With a father hailing from Angola and a Swiss mother, Brandão’s music draws inspiration from a unique set of influences. “Bouncy Castle” is the sound of an artist who has truly found his voice.

“Bouncy Castle” is the result of a creatively intense but personally difficult period of life for Brandão. After three albums with Frank Powers – a band that released three albums and whose live line-up included brass and violins – multi-instrumentalist Brandão joined Sophie Hunger’s band, primarily as a percussionist. Fuelled by lockdown boredom, the duo, together with singer/songwriter Faber, wrote the album “Ich liebe Dich” late in 2020. It reached number 2 in the Swiss charts where it stayed for more than 20 weeks.

Having been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Brandão’s perspective on life changed dramatically. “To me, Bouncy Castle describes a person with a never-say-die attitude.” he explains, “someone who accepts the changes around him. It is a song of hope about the body and spirit.” Brandão is blessed with a supple tenor that commands attention with ease and charm. The same goes for an EP that oozes warmth, wit and oodles of talent: Every instrument on “Bouncy Castle” was played by Brandão himself.
