Enlightenment through music

MUAR is apparently the Hebrew word for enlightenment. It is also the title of the debut album from the Israeli/Swiss duo Dorj & Melodiesinfonie, released on 24 September 2019 via Radicalis Music.

Dorj and Melodiesinfonie met three years ago in a Zurich venue. Dorj was bowled over by Melodiesinfonie’s DJ set, the best he’d ever witnessed, he says. The two men had a chat and stayed in touch when Dorj returned to Tel Aviv. More than that, they began to visit each other regularly, and each visit yielded more music. The result is “MUAR”, a collection of songs which – according to their biography – documents “the whole history, the whole spectre of our inner worlds which influence our thinking and acting.”

Laid-back to the point of weightlessness, listening to MUAR is like looking at a blue sky flecked with a few small white clouds. Effortlessly, the voice glides soulfully over a background of feather light electric piano and understated Wes Montgomery-style guitar, and softly syncopated percussion. Oh, and here’s a quietly ruminating trumpet! Truly an album that oozes peace.
