SME @ Paléo Festival, Nyon – 17 – 22 July 2018

Incredibly, it’s the Paléo Festival’s 43rd edition this year! Such longevity wouldn’t have been possible if this wasn’t such a special event indeed. It begins with the location, the gorgeous green fields near the North banks of Lake Geneva. And it continues with a music programme that is amongst the most diverse, colourful and thus inspirational in Europe. It doesn’t end there, however. Beyond music, the organisers strive to serve up a feast for the eye, too, with the creation of spectacular and surreal architectural spaces dotted around the whole site. The resulting atmosphere is unique, regularly driving performers to new levels of intensity and abandon. Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, MGMT, Beirut and Indochine are this year’s main international attractions. Amongst the Swiss acts performing are Mario Batkovic,  H E X  and Adieu Gary Cooper.

Once again, SME is inviting a substantial number of key professionals from around Europe to the Paléo to sample some of the best sounds Switzerland has to offer, and to hook up with their local colleagues.

SME / FCMA Showcases
16:00
at COSMO; all performances are followed by an apéro – an ideal opportunity to start the evening in style.

Apart from the brunch, SME in cooperation with FCMA is also hosting a daily afternoon showcase concert and apéro at the Cosmo. All bands appearing here are also part of the regular Paléo programme. Accredited professionals and media representatives are cordially invited to come along to these events.

Tuesday, 17 July: Crimer
Armed with a rich array of seriously catchy choruses and irresistible 80s style synth beats, Crimer, accompanied by a trouser-tight band, is also a gravity-defying one-man explosion of rubber-legged post-disco dance moves.

Wednesday, 18 July: Fou!
The Neuchatel-based beat makers FlexFab and Hook have once again pooled their ideas to create a groovy new musical hybrid they call “bounce électro tropical”.

Thursday, 19 July: Danitsa
The rapper with a Jamaican family background serves up a gripping melange of ragga, funk and hip-hop choc-a-bloc full of fiendishly unforgettable melodies and unusually varied instrumental arrangements.

Friday, 20 July: XTRM Tour
Rappers Di-Meh, Makala and Slimka make up this self-proclaimed “superwak clique” from Geneva. The collective favours a down-beat and melodic type of hip-hop, served steaming hot in an energetic and smart live performance.

Saturday, 21 July: Muthoni Drummer Queen
Using elements of reggae, hip-hop and East African music styles, Nairobi-born singer and rapper Muthoni Drummer Queen, together with producers Jean “Hook” Geissbuhler and Greg “GR!” Escoffey, has created one of the hottest new sounds around.
