Printemps de Bourges, France – 24 – 29 April 2018 – this time with added Swissness

Spring’s in the air, and so is Printemps de Bourges, the bijou festival in the centre of France designed to celebrate and support all forms of Francophone song writing. And this time round, the event is even more special to us at Swiss Music Export than usual. This is because Switzerland is the festival’s featured country!

Switzerland’s love affair with Printemps de Bourges began fully twenty-one years ago. Under the aegis of the Dolce Vita Club in Lausanne, Caves du Manoir in Martigny, and the Paléo Festival in Nyon, the Young Gods were the first act to feature under the banner of the Swiss connection in 1987. A few years later, Fondation CMA and Swiss Music Export also became involved. As a result, Swiss artists have featured regularly in the regular Printemps de Bourges programme or in the hugely popular “Discoveries” section, recently renamed “Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges Crédit Mutuel”.

To celebrate Switzerland’s presence at Printemps de Bourges, Swiss Music Export, supported by Présence Suisse, is inviting you to a special “Pot Suisse” apéro and concerts. It is an ideal opportunity to sample some great new live music as well as meeting old friends and new potential partners from Switzerland, including representatives of the Paléo Festival and Voix de Fête Festival, of clubs like Case à Chocs, Chat Noir and Usine à Gaz, as well as Petzi, the Swiss federation of music venues and festivals. Oh, and there will be plenty of excellent Swiss wine (courtesy of the City of Nyon for example) and nibbles.

PRINTEMPS SUISSE – concerts and apéro
Friday 27 April 2018

Live Acts @ La Grande scène Séraucourt

18:45 – XTRM TOUR
20:00 – Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp XXL
21:15 – Kadebostany

XTRM TOUR
Rappers Di-Meh, Makala and Slimka make up this self-proclaimed “superwak clique” from Geneva. The collective favours a down-beat and melodic type of hip-hop, served up in an energetic and smart live performance.

Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp XXL
Formed nearly a dozen years ago by multi-instrumentalist Vincent Bertholet, the Tout Puissants have always been a riotous assemblage of folk, jazz, cajun and Teaxs swing sounds with hefty dollop of punk power thrown in. For their soon-to-be-released third album , the band has been extended to a fourteen-headed Hydra. Expect gloriously ramshackle brilliance.

Kadebostany
The brain-child of producer and composer Guillaume de Kadebostany, the band have shifted their focus for their second album, “Monumental”, from their mock-Balkan-mash-up concept to gimmick-free song-writing, atmospheric electronica production and strong guest vocalists.

Apéro “Pot Suisse” – 18:00 @ Labo Printemps
While enjoying these artists on stage, next door at the Labo Printemps, Swiss Music Export offers a “Swiss Pot” from 18:00 to around 20:00. Organised with the support of Présence Suisse, this apéro will be an opportunity for professionals and artists from all walks of life to meet around Swiss flavours such as the wine offered by the City of Nyon and many other surprise snacks.

This apéro is by registration only. Please register here

Three more Swiss acts are part of the conventional Printemps de Bourges bill.

Zeal & Ardor
Friday, 27 April; 23:50
Le 22

Zeal & Ardor are one of the most striking new Swiss bands in recent times, and one of the most successful. Formed by multi-instrumentalist and singer Manuel Gagneux, they combine the euphoric sound of African-American gospel with the blues of chain-gang songs and a dark wall of death metal guitar to devastating effect.

Vendredi Sur Mer
Saturday, 28 April, 21:00
Le 22

Straddling the worlds of photography and fashion in her other life, Vendredi Sur Mer’s electronica-based chansons are startlingly, almost visually atmospheric.
