As ever, we at Swiss Music Export will do everything in our power to make it a very special occasion indeed. This year’s event is launched on Thursday 22 March in Lausanne before moving on to Zurich’s snazzy Schiffbau complex for Friday’s and Saturday’s programme. Top of our list of events you shouldn’t miss is, of course, the traditional

The Swiss Music Export Brunch and “Business Mixer”
Saturday 24 March 2018; 11:00 – 13:00
Moods @ Schiffbau Zurich

This takes place on Saturday, 24 March 2018, 11:00 – 13:00 @ Moods. Here, Swiss artists and music business professionals will find an ideal opportunity in a convivial atmosphere to link up with their counterparts from abroad. It is the perfect way to start the day with – especially as we also serve a fabulous coffee, together with a proper breakfast buffet. For the first time, the Business Mixer Brunch is co-presented by SME with SONART-Musikschaffende Schweiz. SONART-Musikschaffende Schweiz is the new association of independent musicians in Switzerland. It was created by the fusion of Schweizerische Tonkünstlerverein STV, Schweizer Musiksyndikat SMS, and Musikschaffende Schweiz MSS.

All professionals are cordially invited to attend this event. Alas, there is only room for one representative per band! Accreditation is mandatory. To apply, please follow this link no later than Tuesday 20 March: https://goo.gl/forms/xx2q3x10QQYxwo1h1

Once again, m4music promises to be a fantastic celebration of music, combined with an incredible opportunity for those directly involved in the industry to learn more about the processes and forces that can be the difference between success and failure. The selection of panel discussions, keynote speakers and talk shows is a topical as ever (not to mention free to attend).

A number of exciting new features make this year’s m4music edition even more unmissable.

For the first time, the “Openair Stage” is situated on the newly redesigned and refurbished Schiffbauplatz in front of the Schiffbau complex. It is therefore much better integrated in the life of the festival, offering talented newcomers the perfect platform to reach a sizeable audience. Amongst the artists on the bill are Emilie Zoé, Catalyst, Klain Karoo, Tompaul and Melodiesinfonie @ Band. These concerts are free.

Another new m4music feature is the “Speakers’ Lab”. This is essentially the “Speakers’ Corner” at London’s Hyde Park transported to m4music. On Speakers’ Corner, near Marble Arch, anyone who wishes to hold forth to the public on a subject close to his/her heart is allowed to do so, provided he/she sticks to the law. The same will go for “Speakers’ Lab”, an open microphone for anyone with strong views on any aspect of the Swiss music business.

A more traditional feature of m4music is the hugely popular Demotape Clinic. This year, 797 acts have sent in their demo recordings. From these, a pre-jury has selected around twenty in each category – rock, pop, urban, electronica – the merits of which are to be discussed by a panel of experts. The winners in each category will receive CHF 3000.-. An overall winner – “Demo of the Year” – will be awarded another CHF 5000.-.

Appearing as part of this year’s general music programme are several acts who will be well known to observers of Swiss Music Export’s activities. These include Zeal & Ardor, Veronica Fusaro, Sandor, Duck Duck Grey Duck, Pablo Nouvelle The Gardener & The Tree, Danitsa and KT Gorique.
